So the biggest leaver of our summer transfer window left yesterday to Aston Villa, for a fee rumored to be about £9.5 million. That is from the team that sold Stewart Downing for £20 million, personally I feel we could have and should have got more. But the lad want to go and now he has gone.
Over is two and a half years with Latics, Charles N’Zogbia had made a total of 83 appearances scoring 15 times. Last season he helped to keep us in the Premier League and managed to win two caps for France. So he has improved at Latics and probably would have continued to, he has to hope that like so many before he he hasn’t left Wigan too so (Pascal Chimbonda, Wilson Palacios, Jason Roberts to name but a few).
So now according to the pundits Latics now have a void in our midfield, so who will fill it? Well there are I believe three players at the club who could quite easily step into our team and be an attacking threat.
The now Nigerian international having been at the club for a season and a half is now ‘ready’ according to Martinez. Last season the 20 year old winger struggled with a few niggles and was unable to break into a consistent place at the squad.
When he did play, quick, sharp and skillful are just a few of his many talents. He has the same ability levels as Charlie and will easily surpass what he did at the club. Watch out for him next season as he will be ready to step up to the plate and cause defenses havoc.
The 20 year old english man is currently away with the national side in Columbia playing as part of the under 20’s world cup, a great achievement for him, showing how much work and talent he has got and put in over the past year.
Although he has yet to play regularly for the first team since coming to the club in 2007, he has been a major part of the reserve side and has played several time in the Carling and FA cup. Full of energy and purpose and has the little bit of something that you want to see in a player. Could well be his year to break into the side along with Moses.
He made 21 appearances last year for Latics, mostly in the first part of the season. He was signed as a defender but showed from the outset that he has a very much attacking minded game, which led him to be caught out of position many times.
With N’Zogbia gone he may be used with his attacking talents in mind, he has pace, skill and a good eye for the ball mixed together with dutch technical ability we have a good all round player. For me he should be used more in the coming season and allowed a more open attacking role getting into the wide areas of the pitch.
